The Cholera Response aims to enhance community awareness and provide resources to prevent the spread of diseases, including cholera. Mercy Corps is working in coordination with the local authorities, UNICEF, the WASH Sector, and INGOs/NGOs to achieve this objective. This intervention is a three-month project that commenced in January 2023, and will be implemented to March 2023 in Bekaa Governorate.

About the program
The cholera prevention response will complement ongoing activities from other partners to create a holistic response to the crisis. The prevention activities can be adjusted as the context evolves to reflect the changing needs on the ground.
Community sensitization and awareness raising: Mercy Corps will conduct cholera awareness and prevention sessions, coupled with the distribution of “Information and Education and Communication materials” on the safe usage of water and sanitation facilities, hand washing, household water treatment and conservation, and personal hygiene.
Distribution of household cholera family hygiene kits: Based on recommendations from the Lebanon WASH Sector, Mercy Corps will distribute 1,400 cholera family hygiene kits to households, providing them with key consumables to prevent against the spread of cholera. The kits will include (but are not limited to) a jerrycan, soap, washing powder and aqua tabs to reduce the spread of cholera and break the chain of transmission.
